The Colfax-Mingo baseball team has endured a challenging year, dropping 14 games while securing only three victories. Each loss has often been decided by a single run, underscoring the fine line between triumph and defeat in high school competition.
On June 25 the squad fell 7-5 to South Hamilton, surrendering three consecutive runs that proved decisive. The game saw the team strand ten runners on base, a missed opportunity that encapsulated the narrow margins of their season.
A week earlier, a 6-5 defeat at the hands of North Mahaska began with a 3-0 lead that evaporated as the opposition rallied. The loss illustrated the team's ability to start strong but struggle to maintain momentum.
A home matchup against Belle Plaine on June 26 featured an early 4-2 advantage that dissolved despite a solid first inning. The 8-5 final score reflected the persistent pressure exerted by opposing offenses.
Key Contributors and Forfeited Contest
Offensive spark came from players such as Camden Cunningham, Wyatt Jay, Maverick Harter and Alex Teed, who consistently drove the team's hitting efforts. Pitching duties were anchored by Jadyn Patten and Metz, whose performances kept the team competitive in several outings.
The schedule also included an unusual forfeit against Keota. An eligibility error by coach Brian Warrick led the team to relinquish a game that had been recorded as a 12-1 win, turning a potential victory into a loss on the books.
