A Celebration of HBCU Marching Band Legacy
The College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta has opened a new exhibition titled "Battle of the Bands," showcasing more than 40 mixed-media paintings that capture the energy of Southern Historically Black College and University marching bands.
The display, timed to the kickoff of the HBCU football season, highlights the upcoming showdown between the Howard Bisons and the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, scheduled for Saturday.
As part of the game’s festivities, the Howard University and Alabama A&M marching bands will take the field during the opening quarter, halftime and a fifth quarter performance, bringing their signature rhythms and choreography to the stadium.
The artwork, created by a collective of artists, features large-scale fabric paintings, pieces on paper and other mixed-media formats, each inspired by fifteen different HBCU bands and their drum majors.
