A Unexpected Departure
Collin Clarke, the Oregon Ducks' Saturday starter for much of the 2026 season, has officially transferred to the TCU Horned Frogs, marking the first major move in what could become a wave of offseason player migrations from the Pacific Northwest.
During his junior year Clarke posted a 4.92 earned run average while striking out 151 batters over 151 innings, a testament to his durability and raw talent. He was known for a low‑90s fastball that regularly hit the mid‑90s, paired with a sharp slider that kept hitters off balance.
Clarke's pitch mix includes five different offerings, but the fastball and slider accounted for the bulk of his workload. His dramatic flair and outspoken nature made him a fan favorite, and his ability to throw at least six innings in six of his first eight starts hinted at a potential return to starter form.
The Ducks now face the challenge of replacing Clarke's production in the rotation. Head coach Mark Wasikowski may need to shift Cal Scolari into a starting role if the sophomore decides to stay, while younger bullpen arms such as Angel Laya, Naulivou Lauaki Jr. and Burke‑Lee Mabeus are expected to see increased responsibility.
Beyond Oregon, Clarke's commitment to TCU adds depth to a Horned Frogs roster that is looking to re‑establish itself as a national contender. The move also underscores a broader trend of Oregon players seeking new programs, a pattern that could reshape the conference landscape in the coming years.
