Colorado School of Mines Sets Record with Three Academic All‑America Selections

Alex Dunagan, Brody Duvall and Tyler Pina earn top academic honors, highlighting the program’s unprecedented scholarly success in collegiate baseball

Colorado School of Mines announced that three of its baseball standouts — Alex Dunagan, Brody Duvall and Tyler Pina — have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All‑America team, a distinction that underscores the program’s rare blend of scholarly and athletic excellence.

A Record‑Setting Academic Milestone

The trio’s recognitions mark the first time a single NCAA Division II program has placed three players on the All‑America list in the same season, eclipsing every other collegiate baseball program across all divisions.

Tyler Pina earned first‑team honors as a catcher while maintaining a 3.84 undergraduate GPA and a 3.78 graduate GPA in computer science. On the field he batted .385 with 32 runs scored on 50 hits, including seven doubles, seven home runs and 42 RBI. His seven home runs in 2026 tie him for #14 on Mines’ all‑time list.

Alex Dunagan graduated with a perfect 4.00 GPA in mechanical engineering and was named to the first team as an outfielder. He finished the season batting .346 with 54 runs, 73 hits, 25 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 73 RBI, tying for the national lead in doubles and ranking #23 in RBI.

Brody Duvall, also an outfielder, capped his debut season with a .460 batting average, 73 runs and 92 hits, including 18 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 33 RBI. His performance placed him #1 nationally in hits per game, #2 in batting average and #16 in total hits, while also setting a new single‑season hits record for the Orediggers.

Together, these achievements illustrate how Colorado School of Mines continues to attract student‑athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the diamond, setting a new benchmark for academic prestige in collegiate baseball.
