A youth hockey coach in Colorado Springs has been taken into custody after a tip about inappropriate behavior with minors prompted a criminal investigation. The arrest of Rory Nathaniel Mushlin, 40, has shocked families connected to the South Suburban Sports Complex where he has been coaching since early 2023.
According to investigators, Mushlin’s alleged conduct includes sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, unlawful sexual communication, distribution of obscene material and internet sexual exploitation of a child. Detectives say the case may involve more than one victim, and they are working closely with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to identify anyone else who may have been harmed.

The South Suburban Sports Complex and related facilities such as the Parker Field House and the Family Sports Center in Arapahoe County have been placed under scrutiny as authorities piece together a timeline of events that stretches back to January 2023. Parents and players have expressed disbelief, while local officials emphasize the importance of protecting children involved in youth sports.
Mushlin is currently being held at the Douglas County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond. His detention hearing is scheduled for later this month, and prosecutors have indicated they will pursue all applicable charges under Colorado law.
