Four-star tight end Colt Lumpris, long considered one of the premier prospects in the 2027 class, announced his decision to commit to the University of Michigan, ending a recruitment that had previously seen him linked to Alabama.
Ranked No. 13 nationally among tight ends by On3 and No. 5 in New Jersey, Lumpris attracted a suite of offers from programs such as Ole Miss, Florida, Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee. His decision to flip from the Crimson Tide to the Wolverines underscores the growing appeal of Michigan’s offensive vision.
Lumpris is scheduled to visit Ann Arbor on June 5, a trip that will give him a firsthand look at the Wolverines’ facilities and coaching staff. At over 6-foot-6 and 225 pounds, he combines long arms, massive hands and a fluidity of movement that scouts describe as rare for his size, projecting him as a red‑zone threat and a developing pass rusher.
A Boost for the Wolverines' Tight End Corps
Michigan’s recent tight end production, highlighted by alumni Marlin Klein and Colston Loveland, has set a high bar for the program. Lumpris arrives as the first tight end in the 2027 class, adding depth and upside to a room that already features standout talent.
His commitment brings the Wolverines’ 2027 recruiting class to 15 pledges, a group that also includes four-star wide receiver Quentin Burrell. The influx of high-caliber skill players signals Michigan’s intent to remain a powerhouse in the Big Ten and on the national stage.
