Colton Johnson, a 6‑foot‑4, 230‑pound tight end from Upperman, Tennessee, announced his commitment to the University of Mississippi on July 9, sending a wave of excitement through the state’s high school football ranks.
Ranked No. 28 among the 2027 prospects in Tennessee by the 247Sports Composite, Johnson chose the Rebels over a host of Power Five programs, including Tennessee, Alabama, Indiana, Ohio State and Oregon, after his junior film drew national attention.
His senior season saw him tally 37 receptions for 615 yards and four touchdowns, while also playing linebacker and earning 133 tackles, a performance that earned him Region 4‑4A Defensive MVP honors.
Beyond the gridiron, Johnson proved his versatility as a basketball standout, averaging 12.4 points and 9.5 rebounds and guiding Upperman to the Class 3A state semifinals.
