The 2026 baseball season will be remembered for the emergence of junior Colton Lindsay, who anchored the West Central Valley Wildcats both at the plate and on the mound.
A Dual‑Threat Performer
Lindsay appeared in all 29 games, compiling a .500 batting average with 27 hits that translated into 29 runs and nine RBIs.
On the pitching side, he started seven games, finished with a 5‑2 record, and logged 46 innings while striking out 74 batters, allowing just 54 hits and 27 runs.
Coach Isaac Taylor, who guided the Wildcats throughout the campaign, called Lindsay “one of the best juniors in Class 2A” and highlighted his composure under pressure.
Despite Lindsay’s contributions, the team concluded the year with a 9‑20 record and fell 10‑0 to Van Meter in the Iowa High School Athletic Association Substate 6 first‑round game.
The early exit underscores the competitive nature of high school baseball in Iowa, but the experience offers a foundation for the Wildcats to build upon in the coming seasons.
