A Strategic Addition for the Lions
Columbia University announced this week that Anthony Lorenzo will join its men's basketball program as Director of Strategy, Video & Analytics, a role designed to deepen the team's analytical capabilities and video scouting.
Lorenzo arrives with a résumé that spans several mid‑major programs, including stints as an assistant at Campbell University, UC Riverside, Utah State, Washington State and the University of San Francisco, where he also served as a student manager under Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer.
At Campbell, he helped the team capture its first CAA Tournament victory and guided players DJ Smith and Jeremiah Johnson to First and Third Team All‑Conference honors. His work at UC Riverside contributed to the program's inaugural NIT appearance, while at Utah State he was part of a staff that posted a 28‑7 record, secured a Mountain West regular‑season title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth.
During his four years at Washington State, Lorenzo was instrumental in guiding the Cougars to an NIT semifinal, further cementing his reputation as a developer of talent and a strategic thinker.
Lorenzo’s coaching journey began at Centenary University and Rutgers University‑Newark before he pursued graduate studies, earning a degree in exercise science and an MBA from Washington State. He was a two‑sport athlete in high school and credits early exposure to basketball under mentors like C. Vivian Stringer for shaping his career path.
In a statement, Columbia’s athletic director praised Lorenzo’s blend of analytical rigor and player development experience, noting that his appointment aligns with the program’s ambition to expand its competitive edge in the Ivy League and beyond.
