A small but determined squad from Columbia, Missouri, has made headlines across the state after clinching the Missouri State Cup in early June.
A Surprising State Cup Victory
The team’s triumph was all the more remarkable because they faced off against larger clubs from Kansas City and St. Louis, making the victory appear almost improbable.
Team members, still buzzing from the achievement, said the win felt surreal, especially given the odds they had overcome.
Coach Aziz El‑Tayash, who has guided the side for the past five years, praised the players’ dedication and highlighted the progress they have made over that period.
Heading to Utah
The squad will now travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, where they are set to begin competition in the 2026 United States Youth Soccer National Championships on Thursday.
A final practice on Sunday evening gave the players a chance to fine‑tune their strategies before the tournament kicks off.
Lincoln Watson, one of the standout players, expressed both excitement and disbelief at the opportunity to represent Missouri on a national stage.
Ismael Abaidalla echoed the sentiment, noting that the collective effort of the entire roster made the unexpected victory possible.
Coach’s Outlook
With the state cup now behind them, the players say they are more focused than ever, channeling their energy into the upcoming national games.
Coach El‑Tayash remains optimistic, believing that the team’s five‑year journey has prepared them well for the challenges ahead.
