Columbus Blue Jackets’ ‘Recycle the Game’ Initiative Turns Donations into Community Growth

Partnership with Advanced Drainage Systems expands equipment access for local youth hockey players through September

Blue Jackets launch 'Recycle the Game' to expand youth hockey access

The Columbus Blue Jackets have kicked off their annual "Recycle the Game" campaign, a partnership with Advanced Drainage Systems that invites fans to donate new or gently used hockey gear at OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rinks throughout September.

The drive is designed to lower the cost barrier for young players in the region, making the sport more accessible by funneling donated equipment into an affordable sale later in the year.

All contributed items are sanitized before being offered at the Blue Jackets' Equipment Sale, with every dollar raised supporting the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation and reinvested back into community hockey programs.

Incentives and community impact

Participants in the donation drive will also receive an exclusive ticket offer for a select 2026‑27 home game, adding a personal incentive for fans to get involved. Last year's sale moved more than 2,000 pieces of equipment and assisted 185 families, a benchmark the organization hopes to surpass this season.

Beyond the immediate financial benefit, the initiative underscores the Blue Jackets' broader commitment to growing youth hockey across Ohio and fostering the next generation of players.
