A new program called 'Grow Her Game' has taken root in Columbus, targeting girls between the ages of four and seven who want to experience soccer without the burden of registration costs.
The effort is a joint venture among Scotts, the Scotts Miracle‑Gro Foundation, the Columbus Crew, Every Kid Sports and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, each contributing resources to level the playing field.
Partnerships Drive Inclusion
Starting on September 12 and running through October 17, the season will unfold across several community centers, including the Far East, Westgate and Whetstone locations, giving families easy access to fields and facilities.
Participants receive more than just a spot on a team; they are equipped with goals, socks, balls and goalie gloves, ensuring that lack of gear does not halt participation.
Registration closes on July 24, or when the program reaches its 400‑girl capacity, creating a sense of urgency for interested families.
A Model for Replication
At the conclusion of the six‑week schedule, each player will be invited to an exclusive clinic and celebration at ScottsMiracle‑Gro Field, where the Columbus Crew will host the festivities.
Beyond the sport, organizers say the initiative seeks to nurture character traits, leadership abilities and healthy lifestyle habits that extend far beyond the pitch.
Scotts, a longtime sponsor of youth sports, brings financial backing that covers registration fees, while the Scotts Miracle‑Gro Foundation adds a layer of community stewardship.
The Columbus Crew contributes its brand influence and venue, turning the final celebration into a showcase of local soccer culture.
Every Kid Sports and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department coordinate logistics, from field reservations to equipment distribution, ensuring smooth execution across the designated sites.
While the program is currently confined to Columbus, its design offers a template for other municipalities seeking to remove economic obstacles in youth sports, especially for under‑represented groups.
