Scholarship Recipients Pursue Diverse Paths
The Columbus Soccer Organization (CSO) recently presented its annual CSO Collegiate Scholarship, awarding $500 to two graduating seniors, Rylee Wilson and Rivers Holland, to support their educational or financial emergency needs.
Wilson, a senior at Hamilton High School, has been a fixture on the local soccer scene from under‑nine through under‑15 with GSO and Columbus United, while Holland, also a senior, transferred from Baton Rouge in 2021 and has since contributed as a player and referee for CSO.
Both athletes will continue their academic journeys at Mississippi State University, where Holland plans to study kinesiology with an eye toward a career in personal training and eventually a role on a professional soccer staff, and Wilson intends to major in bio‑chemistry, aiming for a medical career focused on orthopedics.
A Community‑Driven Initiative
The scholarship fund was seeded by donations honoring Marolyn Albertson, grandmother of longtime Columbus United coach Dave Albertson, underscoring the community’s commitment to nurturing young talent.
Starting next year, any CSO‑registered player who has competed at the U‑15 level or above will be eligible to apply, expanding the program’s reach.
Looking Ahead
As both recipients prepare for campus life, they carry with them the support of a network that includes teammates, coaches, and donors who believe in their potential.
