A Global Game, A Local Celebration
Fans of the beautiful game will gather this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at The Rip Tide Lounge in Marblehead for a community‑focused watch party of the FIFA World Cup Final. The event, organized by Marblehead Football Club (MHD FC), invites the public to enjoy the match while contributing to a good cause.
MHD FC has turned the viewing party into more than a social occasion. A suggested $10 donation will fund a youth soccer gear drive, encouraging attendees to bring gently‑used equipment that can be repurposed for local programs.
Supporting the Next Generation
All proceeds and donated gear will bolster MHD FC’s non‑profit mission to expand youth soccer opportunities throughout Massachusetts’ Greater North Shore. The club, founded in January as a charitable organization, works through scholarships, equipment donations, partnerships and community fundraising to eliminate financial barriers to the sport.
Steve Johnston, President of Lynn Youth Soccer, expressed gratitude for the event, noting that the donated equipment will help more young athletes participate in programs that might otherwise be out of reach. "This partnership shows how a shared love of soccer can translate into real opportunities for our kids," he said.
John Kaetzer, owner of The Rip Tide Lounge, emphasized the venue’s role in bringing people together and supporting young athletes. "Our lounge is a gathering place for the community, and we’re proud to host an event that blends entertainment with meaningful impact," he added.
Al Wilson, President of Marblehead Football Club, highlighted the World Cup’s unique ability to unite people globally through a shared passion for the game. "When fans from different backgrounds come together, the sport becomes a bridge that transcends borders," Wilson remarked.
Attendees will leave not only with a deeper appreciation for the tournament but also with a clearer understanding of MHD FC’s community initiatives and ways to get involved, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word.
