The inaugural Connecticut Cup baseball recruiting showcase unfolded on July 30, 2026 at the University of Connecticut’s campus in Storrs, bringing together some of the state’s most promising high school players in a completely free setting.
A Merit‑Based Platform for Young Talent
Organized by House of Sports, the day‑long clinic aimed to level the playing field by removing financial barriers that often limit exposure for aspiring athletes.
The program featured two All‑Star games segmented by graduation class, alongside batting practice, defensive drills and video analysis sessions, with TrackMan technology feeding pitch data onto the scoreboard for every throw.
More than 140 seniors and juniors participated, while representatives from over 35 colleges watched closely, making the event a rare convergence of talent and scouting.
Marcus Wearing, a first baseman from North Haven who posted a .589 average and 31 RBIs in his junior season, called the experience “a great opportunity to develop both as a player and as a person.” Brody Kasack, a Bethel pitcher making his debut, retired all five batters he faced, a performance that earned praise from his high school coach Ray Turek.
UConn head coach Jim Penders expressed optimism that the showcase would grow, stating he hopes the Connecticut Cup becomes an annual tradition that continues to elevate the level of high school baseball in the region.
Gary Lisiewski, an advisor with House of Sports, underscored the event’s core philosophy: providing opportunities based on merit rather than monetary means, a principle that resonated throughout the day.
