Conor McCarthy, a former Bryant University baseball standout, has been appointed pitching coach for UNC Asheville’s baseball program, bringing a blend of playing experience and analytical expertise to the role.
After two seasons at Appalachian State University, where he served as Director of Player Development and Strength and Conditioning Coach, McCarthy led data and analytics initiatives that optimized pitching performance and player development.
In 2024 he worked as a Pitching Lab Analyst at Wake Forest University, applying advanced metrics to refine pitching strategies and support the Demon Deacons’ staff.
From 2017 to 2023 he founded and directed Player Development at CTX Baseball in Liberty Hill, Texas, training pitchers of all ages and building a reputation for evidence‑based coaching.
Philosophy of Player Development
McCarthy’s collegiate career at Bryant University (2010‑2014) included three Northeast Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances, giving him a player‑first perspective that informs his coaching approach.
Head coach Alex Raburn praised McCarthy’s organizational skills, analytical expertise, and dedication to individualized pitcher development, noting that the new staff will emphasize growth, preparation, and competitive excellence.
McCarthy’s coaching philosophy centers on helping athletes understand their game, take ownership of their careers, and reach their full potential within UNC Asheville’s program.
