Texas Southern University has named Corey Lowery as its new head coach for the men’s basketball team, concluding a protracted hiring process that was complicated by internal team unrest.
Lowery arrives with a two‑decade‑plus career that includes 27 years of coaching, 13 of which have been spent as a head coach at the collegiate level, during which he compiled a winning record of 266‑73.
A distinguished coaching résumé
His tenure at Lincoln University saw the team finish second in the CIAA Northern Division and earn CIAA Coach of the Year honors in 2021‑22, while at Seton Hall he helped a staff post 42 wins in its first two seasons and reach the NIT National Championship game in 2024. Prior to that, he guided Essex County College to six straight conference titles and deep runs in the NJCAA Tournament, highlighted by Final Four appearances in 2014 and 2016.
Lowery’s philosophy centers on developing players both on the hardwood and in the classroom, a approach he has consistently applied across his stops, from Hillside High School where his squads captured a conference championship to his more recent roles.
