Lehigh University announced today that Corey Mayer has been named the new head coach of its women's field hockey program, tapping a coach whose career has been built on winning and development.
A Coach With a Proven Track Record
Mayer arrives after five seasons as an assistant at Villanova, where she helped the Wildcats to 41 victories and a string of tournament appearances, including a 2022 campaign that yielded 11 wins and a Big East Tournament berth in both 2022 and 2023.
Prior to Villanova, Mayer was an integral player at James Madison University, contributing to a 2021 CAA regular‑season championship and earning All‑CAA honors after a collegiate career that featured 73 appearances, 14 goals and eight assists.
Her international experience also includes a stint with the Holcombe Hockey Club in England’s Premier League in 2020 and selection to the USA Women’s National Development Team the same year, underscoring her global perspective.
Building a Culture of Excellence
At Lehigh, Mayer says she wants to forge a passionate team culture that can compete at the top of the Patriot League, leveraging her experience to recruit, develop talent and sustain academic excellence.
The appointment comes as Lehigh looks to strengthen its position within the conference, a move that aligns with the university’s broader athletic strategy and benefits partners such as USA Field Hockey, which has long supported Mayer’s development.
