A matchup for the ages
The two storied programs will meet on September 26, 2026, at the University of California, Berkeley. The game is slated to be part of the opening week of California’s high school football season, which kicks off on August 21, 2026.
De La Salle, which held the nation’s longest win streak of 151 consecutive victories from 1992 to 2004, captured the 2015 CIF Open Division State Championship by defeating Corona Centennial. That victory remains a benchmark for the Lancers, who finished the previous season ranked No. 10 in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 poll with an 11‑2 record.
Centennial reached the CIF Southern Section championship game last year before losing to Santa Margarita. The team finished the season ranked No. 10 nationally and will open its 2026 schedule in a Week 0 matchup against Servite before heading to Berkeley.
Broadcast and expectations
De La Salle’s 2026 campaign begins a week later, on August 28, with a game against Junipero Serra. The Lancers are again expected to be among the nation’s elite, having ended the prior season ranked No. 16 after a narrow loss in the state championship.
The upcoming contest will be broadcast on ESPN, which has secured rights to showcase the game across its network of channels. The telecast is anticipated to draw considerable attention, given the historic significance of the rivalry and the high profiles of both programs.
