Cougars Gear Up for Final Midweek Showdown
The SIUE Cougars are scheduled to meet SIU Carbondale on May 12 at 6 p.m. at Itchy Jones Stadium in Carbondale, Illinois, in what will be the final midweek matchup of the season.
The Cougars arrive with a remarkable eight‑game winning streak and a season record of 30 victories, the most the program has posted in the Division I era since 2007. Their recent sweep of the last two weekend series has pushed their OVC start to 8‑0, the best conference opening in school history.
Record‑Breaking Performances
Ryan Niedzwiedz continues to dominate the league, topping the OVC with 26 home runs this season and sitting fourth nationally. He also holds the school’s career home run record with 45, while Mack Mitchell ranks third in the league with 15 homers and sits second in career totals at 37.
Chase Bloomer, already celebrated as the Division I hits leader for SIUE with 236 career knocks, adds another layer of excitement as the team looks to finish the season strong. Teammates Terrick Thompson‑Allen and Josh Heyder have also been recognized with OVC Player of the Week honors, highlighting the depth of talent on the roster.
Brady Coon, another key contributor, has been part of a lineup that smashed a single‑game school record of nine home runs on March 20 at Morehead State, a feat that helped propel the Cougars to a 17‑home‑run weekend at Eastern Illinois.
As the final midweek game approaches, the Cougars’ momentum, historic statistics and standout players create a narrative that fans will remember for years, promising a fitting climax to a season that has already rewritten the program’s record books.
