A fresh take on love and sport
A new queer women’s basketball romantic comedy titled ‘Courtside’ is currently in development, promising to blend the fast‑paced world of professional hoops with a tender love story.
The film features WNBA veterans Gabby Williams, Sydney Colson and Theresa Plaisance, who will each appear on screen as both athletes and characters.

Sydney Colson, also serving as an executive producer, said she is thrilled to see a story that puts queer representation at the center of the sport, noting that visibility matters as much as the game itself.
The project also highlights the personal connection between Colson and Plaisance, who won a championship together on the Las Vegas Aces in 2022.
Behind the camera and the cast
Written by Brittani Nichols and directed by Carly Usdin, the film also brings actress Jennifer Beals into the mix; Beals, co‑founder of the production company Run‑A‑Muck, will appear in a supporting role.
Williams, who currently plays for the Golden State Valkyries and represents France internationally, brings a global perspective to the storyline.
Nichols expressed excitement about merging her love of sports, lesbian tension and comedy, hoping the film will resonate with both basketball fans and romance seekers.
