At the heart of the historic run was Michael Mayer, the Kentucky Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Football, who later starred at Notre Dame before joining the Las Vegas Raiders; quarterback Caleb Jacob threw for 2,817 yards and 33 touchdowns, and kicker David “Trey” Gronotte converted 68 of 71 extra‑point attempts.
