Preseason expectations take shape
The BIG EAST Conference released its preseason coaches poll, forecasting a fierce battle across both divisions. Creighton was slated to finish second in the Midwest, trailing only Akron, while Georgetown secured the East crown with a unanimous vote and 66 points.
Both programs entered the poll with strong credentials. Georgetown, the 2025 regular‑season and tournament champions, finished the year 14‑4‑4 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round. Creighton, meanwhile, returns 16 players from last season, including defenders Matthew Reed and Andrija Savic.
Player honors
Individual accolades were announced alongside the team forecasts. Mitchell Baker of Georgetown earned Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Til Kauschke from Seton Hall was named Preseason Midfielder of the Year, and Tate Lampman of Georgetown captured Defensive Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Kyle Durham of UConn received the Preseason Goalkeeper award.
Matthew Reed also earned a unanimous spot on the Preseason All‑BIG EAST squad, joining 11 other players on the first team. The 2026 season is scheduled to begin on August 20, when conference teams will open play across the country.
