Creighton University’s basketball programs have kicked off summer workouts, marking the first steps under new leadership. After a 16‑year tenure, Greg McDermott stepped down as head coach of the men’s team, paving the way for Alan Huss to take the reins. The transition comes as the university embraces a fresh direction while honoring the legacy built over recent years.
A New Era for Creighton Basketball
Huss, who previously served as an assistant under McDermott, says his priority is to preserve the program’s celebrated offensive rhythm while injecting a new defensive edge. He believes that blending tradition with intensity will position the Blue Jays to contend for a Big East championship next season.
On the women’s side, Jim Flanery returns for his 25th year at the helm, energized by a season that hovered just above .500. The team’s motivation is palpable, and Flanery’s experience is expected to guide younger players toward a deeper postseason run.
Beyond the varsity squads, Creighton’s Basketball Abilities Camp, now in its ninth year, continues to provide a welcoming space for children with special needs. The camp offers these youngsters the chance to interact with both the men’s and women’s teams, fostering community ties and confidence through sport.
