A Quest for Six
The Cromwell‑Portland high school football program is chasing its sixth straight appearance in the state playoffs, a streak that would cement its place among the most consistent teams in recent memory.
Guided by Coach Sal Morello, who enters his ninth season with a career record of 174‑44 and 87‑16 at Cromwell, the Panthers bring a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers to the field.
Returning starters such as Isaiah Sanchez, Mason Stuchara, Jayden Augustin, Rafael Mendez, Mike Light, David Waskowitz, Xavier Hodge and Noah Bryant provide continuity on both sides of the ball, while the departure of quarterback Mike Sitaro and running back Tyler Cippola creates openings for emerging talent to step into leadership roles.
The schedule promises tough tests, highlighted by a Week 2 home clash with reigning Class S champion Sheehan, as well as matchups against Haddam‑Killingworth, Weaver/Hartford Public/Classical, Valley Regional, Granby Canton, North Branford, Rockville, Old Saybrook, Capital Prep/Achievement First and Rocky Hill.
Despite the loss of key offensive pieces, the coaching staff remains confident that the combination of experienced linemen, a revamped defense and a dynamic recruiting class will keep the team competitive and capable of extending its playoff streak into 2026.
