Two standout collegiate baseball players from the City University of New York have been selected for the American Baseball Coaches Association’s All‑Region Third Team, a testament to their dominant performances this spring.
A Double Honor for CUNY Baseball
Roy Longarzo, a senior at Baruch College, anchored a Bearcats squad that captured its second consecutive CUNY Athletic Conference championship, posting a .412 batting average, 19 runs batted in and 37 runs scored while stealing 12 bases in 15 attempts.
Demetri Ziorgiannis, a sophomore at CCNY, led the Beavers with a .404 average, five home runs and 33 RBIs, while slugging .625 and reaching base at a .494 clip, and he was 18‑for‑20 in stolen‑base attempts.
Their recognitions reflect a broader surge in competitiveness within the CUNY Athletic Conference, as programs continue to develop talent that can rival larger‑school counterparts.
The accolades also underscore the role of the American Baseball Coaches Association in spotlighting emerging talent across the nation, reinforcing the conference’s growing reputation.
