The CVU Redhawks entered the 2024 campaign as the reigning Division I champions, a title that carries both expectation and a fresh set of challenges. After a 2023 season that saw them finish 2‑7 and bow out in the opening round against St. J, the squad is eager to translate past triumphs into a more consistent future.
A large senior class and a sizable junior contingent form the backbone of this year's roster. Upperclassmen such as Alex Jovell and D’Marcus Riggs bring a mix of championship experience and hard‑learned lessons from a season that ended earlier than many had hoped.
Leadership and Fresh Talent
Head coach Frank Parisi has repeatedly highlighted the importance of the junior class, noting that linemen and skill players alike are stepping up to fill key roles. Parisi’s vision centers on harnessing the collective energy of these players while integrating the contributions of freshmen and sophomores who are already making noticeable impacts on the field.
Alex Jovell has spoken openly about the need to overcome complacency, emphasizing that the team’s mindset must shift from past successes to a relentless pursuit of improvement. Meanwhile, D’Marcus Riggs reflected on the sting of last year’s early playoff exit, using that disappointment as fuel to push harder in practices and games.
The coaching staff’s focus on development extends beyond the veterans. Freshmen are earning early playing time, and sophomores are contributing significantly, creating a dynamic mix that could reshape the team’s chemistry. This blend of experience and youthful vigor is positioned to challenge the narrative that the Redhawks are merely defending a title.
Ultimately, the Redhawks are driven by a clear objective: to build on their championship pedigree, improve their regular‑season record, and advance further in the playoffs. With a determined senior and junior core, an engaged coaching staff, and promising underclassmen, the 2024 campaign offers a compelling story of redemption and growth for CVU.
