A Czech prospect joins the Hurricanes
The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club announced the signing of 17‑year‑old Czech forward Oliver Vanha to a WHL Scholarship Agreement, a move that adds a highly touted import player to the roster for the upcoming 2026‑2027 season.
Selected 125th overall in the third round of the 2026 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, Vanha brings a blend of size, skill and competitive intensity that General Manager Barclay Parneta described as “big, strong, powerful” with an “high‑end skill set.”
During the 2025‑2026 campaign he recorded 57 points — 25 goals and 32 assists — in 32 games for HC Dynamo Pardubice U17, finishing fourth in both team scoring and goals, and ranking 11th league‑wide in scoring and 15th in goals.
His post‑season performance was equally impressive, as he posted 14 points (six goals, eight assists) over 11 games, tying for fourth in playoff scoring.
Vanha has also represented Czechia on the international stage, most recently at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he contributed a goal in two preliminary games, and earlier in the 2024‑2025 season he logged five points and six penalty minutes in 15 U16 appearances.
He will join fellow Czech imports Dominick Byrtus and Oliver Sichtar for the new WHL season, a storyline that underscores the club’s growing ties to European talent.
The signing also coincides with the Hurricanes’ 40th anniversary in Lethbridge, a milestone that the organization plans to celebrate throughout the campaign.
