Community Soccer Initiative Bridges Gaps for Local Youth
The D.C. United Foundation joined forces with the 480 Club to host a Soccer & Soar event in Montgomery Village, Maryland, offering local youngsters a full day of soccer instruction, mentorship and gear. The collaboration underscores how strategic partnerships can remove barriers that often keep children out of organized sports.
Central to the 480 Club Soccer Program is its commitment to eliminating obstacles such as transportation, meals and equipment costs. By shouldering these expenses, the program enables families who might otherwise struggle to participate to engage fully in athletic and developmental activities.
Event attendees enjoyed a soccer clinic led by representatives from the D.C. United Foundation, followed by a visit to a D.C. United match where participants took a group photo on the field. Each child received soccer balls, jerseys and other memorabilia, reinforcing a sense of belonging and accomplishment.
Joseph Hooks, founder of the 480 Club, highlighted the broader significance of the day, noting that the experience builds confidence, leadership and lasting friendships. He emphasized that the impact reaches far beyond the pitch, shaping well‑rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
The initiative also involved the Montgomery Village Foundation, Montgomery County Public Schools, coaches, families and volunteers, illustrating a tightly woven network of support that amplifies the program’s reach and sustainability.
