Dallas Cowboys Star Leads Youth Football Camp in Corpus Christi

George Pickens inspires over 500 young athletes as the team deepens its community roots

Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens returned to his home state of Texas this summer to run a youth football camp that quickly became a focal point for the community.

A Community‑First Approach

The event, held at Cabaniss Field in Corpus Christi, welcomed more than 500 kids between the ages of six and sixteen, who spent the day learning drills, playing small‑sided games and hearing Pickens talk about confidence, teamwork and staying active.

Pickens took time to thank each participant, urging them to enjoy the game and to carry the same enthusiasm onto the field and into their everyday lives.

This marked the second consecutive year that the Cowboys have partnered with Flexwork to bring a camp to the Coastal Bend region, underscoring the franchise’s commitment to grassroots development.

Last summer, linebacker Micah Parsons had also appeared at the camp, and his presence helped draw a new wave of interest that carried over into this year’s edition.

Pickens’ own breakout rookie season with Dallas saw him record 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, a performance that has made him a role model for the campers who now get to meet him in person.

Weston Martinez, a fifth‑grader at S. F. Austin Elementary, said it was a dream come true to see a Cowboy up close, noting that he had never attended a Dallas game before.

Andrew Vela, a student at Metro Elementary, added that Pickens meant a great deal to him and that he looked up to the receiver’s work ethic.

Sebastian Cadera, another Metro Elementary pupil, praised Pickens’ route running, catching ability and upbeat attitude, calling the highlights “the best part of the day.”

Coaches and high school athletes from the Coastal Bend volunteered their time to run drills, provide mentorship and keep the energy high throughout the sessions.

Braylen Swanson, a soon‑to‑be senior wide receiver at Carroll High, said meeting Pickens was an unforgettable opportunity that helped shape his own aspirations on the field.

The camp is presented by CHRISTUS Health, a partnership that Richard Morin, President of CHRISTUS Spohn Alice, Beeville and Kleberg, described as a natural extension of his mission to improve community health through youth sports.

Beyond the on‑field work, the camp’s organizers emphasized that the goal is to foster confidence, teamwork and a healthy lifestyle, values that align with both the Cowboys’ brand and the mission of CHRISTUS Health.

Looking ahead, the Cowboys are set to open their season against the New York Giants on September 13, with kickoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m. on KRIS 6 NBC, promising another exciting chapter for the franchise and its growing fan base.
