A New Chapter for Dallas Hockey
The Dallas Stars have taken a decisive step toward expanding their footprint in North Texas by signing a non‑binding Letter of Intent to construct a new arena in Plano. The agreement, announced jointly with development partners Levin Holdings and Cawley Partners, as well as Centennial, outlines a vision for a sports and entertainment district anchored at The Shops at Willow Bend.
The proposed development would combine the arena with a broader mixed‑use complex that includes retail outlets, dining venues, public gathering spaces and additional entertainment options. Planners envision the site as a year‑round destination that draws both local residents and visitors, reinforcing Plano’s status as a regional hub for major events.
City officials are set to deliberate the proposal at a council meeting scheduled for June 8. The discussion will focus on zoning, financing and the potential economic impact of the project, which could reshape the city’s entertainment landscape and generate new tax revenue.
Since the franchise relocated to North Texas in 1993, the Stars have been instrumental in popularizing hockey across the southern United States. Their on‑ice successes — including 21 playoff appearances and a Stanley Cup championship in 1999 — have helped cultivate a growing fan base and inspire youth participation in the sport.
If approved, the arena could cement the Stars’ long‑term commitment to the region and provide a template for future sports‑centric developments. The collaboration among private investors, local government and community stakeholders reflects a coordinated effort to blend athletic ambition with urban revitalization.
