A Breakout Season on the Horizon
Duke’s head coach Jon Scheyer announced that the Blue Devils will keep a core group of players for the upcoming 2026‑27 season, highlighting the return of sophomore wing Dame Sarr.
Sarr arrived in Durham after a two‑year stint with FC Barcelona, where he shot 40 percent from three‑point range in 17 appearances, and he brings a blend of size, defensive versatility and shooting touch that coaches value in modern wings.
Although his rookie year at Duke was marred by inconsistency, Sarr managed 6.4 points per game on 32.3 percent shooting from the perimeter, but his defensive contributions and ability to guard multiple positions stood out.
Projected Impact: Scheyer believes the sophomore’s defensive skill set and shooting upside could make him one of the most effective 3‑and‑D players in college basketball next season, a development that could lift Duke’s deep rotation and create ample catch‑and‑shoot chances for him.
The coaching staff also expects contributions from fellow returnees such as Patrick Ngongba, Caleb Foster, Cayden Boozer, Sebastian Wilkins, Cedric Coward, John Blackwell and Deron Rippey Jr., who together will provide depth and experience.
With a strong backcourt and a schedule that emphasizes perimeter play, Sarr’s trajectory toward a potential first‑round NBA draft in 2027 hinges on sharpening his three‑point shot while maintaining his defensive reputation.
