Dan Curtis, who guided the Ellsworth High School baseball program for eleven years, announced his resignation this week, citing the need to follow his son Dawson’s collegiate career at Husson University.
During his tenure, the Eagles captured two state championships in 2019 and 2022 and posted double‑digit win seasons in all but one year, a testament to his consistent leadership and the program’s resilience.
Curtis’s roots in Maine baseball run deep; he starred at Narraguagus High in Harrington before moving on to play at the University of Maine and later at Husson, where he now serves as vice president for the Down East region of the Hammond Lumber Company.
The decision reflects a personal commitment to family, as Dawson prepares to continue his baseball journey at the same institution his father once called home, while the community rallies behind a program that has become a cornerstone of local pride.
Looking Ahead
While Curtis hinted at the possibility of returning to the dugout in the future, he emphasized that his immediate focus is on supporting his son and the next generation of players, a sentiment echoed by teammates, alumni, and local officials who remain confident in the program’s bright outlook.
