A Strategic Commitment
Dane Weber, a senior quarterback from Chaparral High School in Temecula, has pledged to join the University of California, Berkeley, edging out rival programs from UCLA and Cincinnati. The decision marks a significant milestone in his recruiting journey and underscores the Golden Bears’ growing appeal among top prospects.
Weber’s junior campaign was nothing short of spectacular. He completed 218 of 311 passes for 3,654 yards and 41 touchdowns, while also adding 115 rushing attempts for 668 yards and 14 touchdowns. Standing at 6‑foot‑2 and 220 pounds, his blend of size, arm strength, and mobility has drawn praise from analysts and coaches alike.
The coaching staff, led by Tosh Lupoi, plans to have Weber back up Jaron‑Keawe Sagapolutele through the 2027 season. This arrangement provides the Bears with a reliable second‑string option before Weber is expected to contend for the starting role in 2028, potentially reshaping the offense.
Cal’s 2027 recruiting class is ranked 23rd nationally and fourth within the ACC, a testament to the program’s upward trajectory. Weber’s commitment highlights the competitive nature of West Coast recruiting, as he chose the Golden Bears over two other prominent programs.
