A Strategic Appointment
Port Angeles High School announced the promotion of Daniel Horton to head coach of the Roughrider girls basketball team, replacing longtime mentor Mike Poindexter who is retiring after a distinguished career.
Horton brings eleven years of assistant coaching experience to the role, having helped the Roughriders capture multiple league and district titles while also steering the school's girls soccer program.
The team's recent outing showcased their offensive firepower, as the Port Angeles Lefties secured a 7‑0 victory over the Portland Pickles, highlighted by four runs in the second inning and three more in the following two frames.
Roller Derby Test
In a hard‑fought bout, Port Scandalous Roller Derby fell to Rodeo City Roller Derby, 192‑143, yet skater Summit Slayer delivered a 28‑point jam that underscored the team's willingness to experiment with new strategies and give emerging talent game experience.
Coach Horton emphasized that the win and the roller derby experiment are part of a broader effort to build chemistry and confidence as the season progresses, with fans eager to see how the new leadership will shape the Roughriders' trajectory.
Looking Ahead
As the Roughriders prepare for upcoming matchups, the community anticipates a season marked by strategic innovation and renewed energy under Horton's guidance, hoping the momentum from recent victories translates into sustained success on the court.
