Former San Jose Sharks prospect Danil Gushchin has signed a two‑year contract with Avtomoblist Yekaterinburg of the Kontinental Hockey League, marking his return to Russia after the Colorado Avalanche opted not to extend a qualifying offer.
Gushchin, drafted 76th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, climbed through the Sharks’ system, debuting for the San Jose Barracuda before earning a brief NHL call‑up. Over three seasons in North America he posted 70 goals and 150 points in 182 AHL games, adding two goals and five points in 18 NHL appearances.
During his tenure with the Colorado Avalanche organization he remained at the AHL level, continuing to develop his game while awaiting an NHL opportunity that never materialized. His stint in Colorado was characterized by consistent production in the minors and a steady presence in the farm system.
The move to Avtomoblist Yekaterinburg offers the Russian forward a fresh environment in the KHL, where his offensive instincts and experience could translate into a larger role. The club, based in the industrial hub of Yekaterinburg, will look to blend his North American exposure with domestic talent.
