The University of Chicago Department of Athletics and Recreation announced today that Danny Quinn will join the Maroons as an assistant coach for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign. Quinn, who most recently served four seasons at Saint John’s College in Minnesota, arrives with a track record of elevating programs through strategic development and disciplined play.
Championship pedigree at Saint John’s
During his tenure at Saint John’s, Quinn guided the team to MIAC Regular‑Season Championships in 2024 and 2025, and the 2025 squad earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. In a dramatic opening‑round game, the Johnnies edged the University of Chicago 72‑71, a result that highlighted Quinn’s ability to compete on the national stage.
Under Quinn’s guidance, nine players earned first‑team All‑MIAC honors, including Ryan Thissen, who was named 2025 MIAC Offensive Player of the Year. The program also captured three All‑Region selections, three Academic All‑America recognitions, and a single All‑America honoree, underscoring the coach’s impact on both athletic and scholarly achievement.
Quinn’s coaching journey includes formative years at Saint Mary’s (MN), Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and La Verne, where he helped the latter secure its first IIAC championship in a decade. He holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from Loras College, earned in 2017, and was a four‑year basketball player for the Duhawks.
The Maroons will open the 2026‑27 season on November 8 against Harvard University, marking Quinn’s first official appearance on the sidelines for Chicago.
