The Danny Rumph Classic, a beloved basketball tournament that honors the memory of Daniel E. Rumph, is set to return to Philadelphia this August, bringing together professional and collegiate talent for a five‑day competition at Drexel University’s Daskalakis Athletic Center.
A Legacy on the Court
Now in its 21st year, the event has grown into one of the East Coast’s largest summer basketball gatherings, drawing former NBA stars such as Jayson Tatum, James Harden and Tyrese Maxey, who have previously taken the court to support the cause.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Daniel E. Rumph II Foundation, a Philadelphia‑based nonprofit that provides free hypertrophic cardiomyopathy screenings, CPR training, youth basketball programs and automated external defibrillator placements throughout the city.
Beyond the elite play, the foundation’s health initiatives aim to safeguard young athletes, offering screenings that can detect potentially fatal heart conditions and teaching lifesaving skills that extend beyond the gym.
Hosted for the second consecutive year by Drexel University, the tournament’s organizers say the partnership underscores the institution’s commitment to community health and the development of sport infrastructure in Philadelphia.
