The Darien Little League baseball team captured the Section 1 championship on Tuesday, beating Southington 10-2 in a decisive showdown that highlighted the squad’s depth and determination.
A Game of Resilience and Skill
Third baseman Rex Paquette ignited the offense with a three‑run double in the opening inning, while starting pitcher Chase Sutter delivered a strong outing, striking out seven batters and limiting Southington to a single infield hit.
The heart of the lineup, batting in the second, third and fourth spots, went 6‑for‑6 and scored five runs, underscoring the team’s balanced attack.
Across four sectional tournament games the team compiled 35 runs, a testament to their offensive consistency and ability to pull away in tight contests.
Manager John Butler praised the players’ resilience, noting that winning close games had become a hallmark of the club’s identity this season.
Darien will now meet the Section 2 runner‑up Madison in the State Final Four, a matchup that promises another test of the team’s grit.
The victory marks the program’s first sectional title, a milestone that has energized the community and set high expectations for the upcoming championship run.
