Darrin Wallace Returns to Florida Gulf Coast as Assistant Coach

Former FSW champion brings extensive coaching pedigree to the Eagles

Darrin Wallace has been announced as the newest assistant coach for the Florida Gulf Coast men’s basketball team, bringing a blend of playing experience and coaching acumen to the program.

Wallace’s Coaching Pedigree

During his two‑year stint as head coach at Florida SouthWestern State College, Wallace guided the Buccaneers to a Citrus Conference championship in the 2025‑26 season, finishing with a 41‑18 overall record and a 24‑7 mark in conference play. His leadership produced 14 NCAA Division I scholarships for his players and earned him the Class 3A Florida Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year honor in 2018.

Before turning to the sidelines, Wallace honed his skills as a video coordinator at Florida Gulf Coast University during the 2010‑11 season and played collegiately at Hillsborough Community College, where he earned first‑team all‑conference honors in his sophomore year before transferring to FGCU for the school’s inaugural basketball season.

Community Impact

Beyond the numbers, Wallace is celebrated for building relationships with local high‑school programs and AAU circuits, including Nike Team Florida and Florida Elite, where he has mentored over a hundred athletes toward Division I opportunities.

Pat Chambers, a longtime figure in the program, remains part of the coaching staff.
