Dave McCarty Posthumously Inducted into College Baseball Hall of Fame

The late Stanford star’s legacy is honored alongside a distinguished 2026 class, with a ceremony set in Kansas.

A Legend Remembered

The College Baseball Foundation revealed this week that the 2026 Hall of Fame will welcome a distinguished group of players, coaches and contributors, among them the late Dave McCarty, whose name will be etched into the sport’s history posthumously.

McCarty’s collegiate tenure at Stanford was nothing short of spectacular. In 1991 he posted a .420 batting average, a mark that still stands as one of the program’s finest offensive seasons, and his excellence earned him Baseball America’s College Player of the Year and multiple All‑America selections.

After being drafted third overall by the Minnesota Twins in 1991, McCarty embarked on an 11‑year professional journey that culminated with a pivotal role on the Boston Red Sox’s 2004 World Series championship squad, a triumph that cemented his place in baseball lore.

His talent also earned him spots on the United States team for the 1990 Goodwill Games and the World Championships, where he represented his country on the international stage.

From Campus to the Big Leagues

Beyond his on‑field achievements, McCarty’s impact resonated at Stanford, where he was later inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame, a testament to the lasting impression he made on the campus community.

The upcoming induction ceremony will take place in Overland Park, Kansas, in February 2027, providing fans and alumni a chance to celebrate his legacy alongside fellow honorees.

In partnership with Lamar Advertising, the Foundation will amplify the Hall of Fame class through digital recognition, ensuring that McCarty’s story reaches a broader audience and inspires the next generation of collegiate athletes.

Mark Marquess, longtime Stanford baseball mentor, and Craig Ramsey, a former teammate and coach, are among the figures who have spoken of McCarty’s influence, underscoring the deep connections he forged throughout his career.
