Dave Smart, the head coach of Pacific University’s men’s basketball team, was recently announced as part of the 2026 Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame class, a recognition that reflects decades of building winning programs and shaping the sport in Canada.

His tenure at Carleton University remains a benchmark in Canadian college basketball. Over 19 seasons, Smart guided the Ravens to 13 national championships, including two stretches of five straight titles, and never fell outside the national semifinals.
At Pacific, Smart has translated that defensive rigor and team‑first ethos into measurable progress. The Tigers have risen 183 spots in the NET rankings, now boast a top‑60 scoring defense and a top‑50 rebounding attack, and have become a program that consistently competes at the national level.

The induction ceremony will take place on August 20 in New Brunswick, where Smart will be honored alongside former NBA forward Jamaal Magloire and other distinguished figures from the sport’s history.
