Dave Van Horn Extends Contract, Secures Razorbacks’ Future

Long‑time Arkansas baseball coach commits through 2031, earning $2.1 million annually

A Legacy in the Making

Dave Van Horn, a Hall of Fame baseball coach, has agreed to remain at the helm of the University of Arkansas Razorbacks baseball program through the 2031 season. The renewed agreement raises his base compensation to $2.1 million per year, with additional incentives tied to team performance.

Van Horn’s return to Arkansas in 2003 marked the beginning of a transformative era. Under his guidance the Razorbacks have captured three SEC regular‑season titles, eight SEC Western Division crowns and a tournament championship, while climbing to the top of national rankings.

The team’s résumé includes eight appearances at the College World Series, highlighted by a runner‑up finish in 2018, and a streak of five top‑five national finishes spanning 2009, 2012, 2018, 2022 and 2025. In total the program boasts 974 victories, 390 of them within SEC play, and has been a fixture in 22 NCAA Tournaments.

Van Horn’s impact extends beyond wins. He has mentored 43 All‑Americans, amassed 59 All‑SEC selections and produced a program‑record 167 MLB draft picks, including 12 in the most recent draft. Three of his pupils — Andrew Benintendi, Kevin Kopps and Wehiwa Aloy — have earned the Golden Spikes Award, and two have captured the Dick Howser Trophy.

Looking ahead, Van Horn says the ultimate objective is to deliver Arkansas its first national championship while continuing to develop elite student‑athletes. His vision blends competitive ambition with academic excellence, aiming to produce players who succeed both on the diamond and in the classroom.

The renewed contract also underscores the stability of the program’s leadership. With only two men having coached Arkansas baseball since 1970 — Van Horn and Norm DeBriyn — the team benefits from continuity that fosters long‑term planning and community engagement.
