Lyon College announced this week that David Butterfield, who has served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons, will assume the role of head baseball coach beginning next month.
Butterfield’s ascent comes after a season in which the Scots posted a 49-35 overall record and captured the program’s inaugural appearance in the Southern Athletic Collegiate Conference tournament semifinal, marking the first time the team reached that stage.
A Milestone Season
Athletic Director Kevin Jenkins praised Butterfield’s dedication, stating that his leadership both on and off the field has been instrumental in elevating the program’s competitive edge and academic standards.
Reflecting on his new responsibilities, Butterfield expressed enthusiasm for building on the foundation laid by his predecessors and for continuing the college’s tradition of developing student-athletes who excel in the classroom and in competition.
Prior to joining Lyon, Butterfield honed his coaching philosophy at Clarksville Christian School and as a graduate assistant at Harding University, where he also completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in education and kinesiology.
A native of Batesville, Arkansas, Butterfield remains committed to his community, balancing his professional ambitions with family life alongside his wife Tyler and their daughters, Ella and Maylee.
