David Carl Stillman, MBA, has recently stepped into the role of NASCAR race engineer for Viking Motorsports, where he will guide the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Series team under driver Anthony Alfredo.
A Career Built on Engineering Excellence
His appointment marks the latest chapter in a career that spans more than two decades of high‑performance motorsport engineering.
Prior to joining Viking Motorsports, Stillman honed his skills at Spire Motorsports in 2024‑2025, followed by a tenure at Richard Childress Racing from 2021 to 2024, where he specialized in vehicle dynamics and race strategy.
Earlier in his trajectory he contributed to Roush Fenway Racing and Team Penske, refining shock absorber tuning and handling characteristics that have translated into multiple victories at iconic venues such as Daytona, Talladega, Pocono and the Charlotte Roval.
His engineering philosophy blends rigorous simulation work with real‑world data, employing advanced computer programs to optimize fuel strategy and overall car performance.
Strategic Vision at Viking Motorsports
In his current position Stillman oversees the engineering direction for the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts entry, coordinating simulation runs, devising race‑day strategies and ensuring that the team remains competitive against a deep field of rivals.
Beyond the track, Stillman holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, credentials that inform his analytical approach to both technical and managerial challenges.
His early experience in sales management at Sears, Roebuck & Company further equips him with a business‑savvy perspective that benefits the team’s operational efficiency.
Outside of racing, Stillman is an active member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, reflecting his commitment to community engagement.
