Early Foundations
David Foy, a 1989 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, combined his fascination with baseball statistics and a rigorous applied‑statistics curriculum to launch a three‑decade career at the intersection of finance and insurance.
His early work as an actuary gave way to executive positions at Hartford Life, where he steered the company through its 1997 initial public offering, and later at White Mountains Insurance Group, overseeing the purchase of Symetra and serving on its board until its sale.
Guided by Mentorship
A pivotal figure in Foy’s trajectory was Jack Byrne, an insurance veteran who helmed both GEICO and White Mountains. Byrne’s counsel, delivered through countless conversations, reinforced Foy’s belief in the power of stochastic modeling and strategic leadership.
A New Chapter at GEICO
In recent years, Foy has served as an independent consultant before stepping into the chief financial officer role at GEICO, the nation’s largest auto insurer. He now oversees the company’s financial strategy while still finding time to watch the Boston Red Sox with his two grown sons.
Baseball, Numbers, and Legacy
Beyond the boardroom, Foy’s love of the game endures; he still calculates batting averages in his head and passes the tradition of Red Sox fandom to the next generation, embodying a blend of statistical precision and family tradition.
