The Davis Dragons opened their 2026 campaign on a rainy Thursday night, only to watch the visiting Corner Canyon Chargers explode for 51 points in a 51-14 victory.
Corner Canyon’s offense was relentless, with Jaxon Pehrson delivering a 63‑yard touchdown before halftime and Diesel Dart adding 123 receiving yards and two scores, including a 65‑yard punt return that set up another Chargers’ major.
Chargers’ early onslaught
Davis quarterback Brodie Scheinberg, who finished 25 of 40 for 182 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, was sacked three times, often missing his reads against a disciplined Chargers front.
The turning point came in the third quarter when Corner Canyon rattled off 30 unanswered points, highlighted by an 82‑yard run by Pehrson that capped a dominant stretch and left the Dragons scrambling.
While Sam Coleman managed a 76% completion rate for 206 yards and three touchdowns, his efforts were hampered by a missed potential scoring drive after Scheinberg’s sack by Wyatt Warner, underscoring the team’s inconsistency.
Coach Casey Sutera, who took over after Eric Kjar’s move to Weber State, acknowledged the need for better blitz recognition and line communication, noting that the defense must tighten up if the Dragons hope to compete in the 6A ranks.
Despite the lopsided loss, the Dragons remain focused on correcting communication errors and building chemistry before the next matchup, hoping to turn the early setback into a learning experience.
