Dawson Tenney, the Buckhannon‑Upshur quarterback, has earned a spot on the roster for the 2026 North‑South All‑Star Football Classic, a showcase game that pits the state’s top senior talent against one another. The contest is scheduled for June 20 at South Charleston High School, where the best of West Virginia’s football prospects will converge.
The senior’s season was nothing short of spectacular. He guided his team to a first‑round playoff victory in Class AAAA and posted 86 completions on 181 attempts for 1,256 yards and 12 touchdowns through the air. On the ground, Tenney added 954 rushing yards on 175 carries and scored ten touchdowns, while also catching three passes for 63 yards. The all‑around production helped the team amass 2,273 yards of offense and 23 total touchdowns.
“It’s an honor to represent my teammates and community on this stage,” Tenney said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and highlighting the unwavering support he received from coaches, staff and fellow players throughout the campaign.
Head coach Sloan Baisden of Buckhannon‑Upshur praised his player’s achievements and character, noting that Tenney’s leadership extended beyond statistics and helped shape a resilient team culture.
A Promising Future
Looking ahead, Tenney has signed a commitment to continue his football career at the University of Charleston, where he hopes to build on the foundation he created in high school. The upcoming All‑Star game will serve as a final spotlight on a player whose name already appears on multiple all‑conference and all‑state teams, including the First Team of the Big 10 All‑Conference and the West Virginia Sports Writers Association Class AAAA Second Team. As the state’s football community prepares for the June showdown, Tenney’s story underscores the depth of talent emerging from West Virginia’s high school programs.
