Dayton Flyers Extend Scholarships to Trio of 2027 Recruits
The University of Dayton’s men’s basketball program has taken a decisive step toward shaping its next core by extending scholarship offers to three rising seniors in the Class of 2027.
Akol Nyok, a 7‑foot‑1 center out of Miami, Florida, checks in at No. 145 nationally among his cohort. The Flyers’ offer arrived on July 15, joining a list that also includes Florida Atlantic, Charleston and Georgia.
Mustafa Mohamed, a 6‑9 forward from St. Paul, Minnesota, sits at No. 96 in the same class. Mohamed confirmed his commitment to Dayton on July 16, while also holding offers from Charlotte, Georgia Tech and UNLV.
Troy Fason Jr., a 5‑11 point guard from Daytona Beach, Florida, is ranked No. 176. After a breakout performance at the Peach Jam that saw him pour in 41 points in the semifinals, the Dayton coaching staff extended an offer earlier this month. His impressive showing has also attracted South Florida and Tennessee.
Dayton has yet to secure a verbal commitment from any 2027 recruit, but the program is already seeing early pledges from its 2025‑26 freshmen, Damon Friery and Jaron McKie, who announced their decisions in September.
The roster outlook is further complicated by NCAA rule changes that grant every other current scholarship player at least two seasons of eligibility, positioning the Flyers with a deep pool of returning talent.
Nyok’s high school, Christopher Columbus High School, counts Tai Bell — ranked No. 24 in the 2028 class — among his teammates. Mohamed trains at AZ Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, where former Dayton star DaRon Holmes II completed his prep career. Fason’s prep path includes stops at St. Francis Prep and Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Queens, New York.
With the new scholarships in place, Dayton’s staff is poised to monitor the recruits’ progress as they navigate the upcoming summer circuits, hoping to translate early interest into firm commitments before the next recruiting cycle.
