The University of Dayton’s men’s basketball team is set to navigate a markedly larger non‑conference slate in the 2026‑27 season, with the Flyers scheduled to appear in 14 games outside their league.
A Revamped Exhibition Circuit
The increase comes as the NCAA has, for the first time, permitted teams to play up to 32 regular‑season contests, a rule change that has opened the door for programs to stretch their schedules and experiment with a broader range of opponents.
Dayton will open the season with a five‑game home stretch, beginning on November 2 against the New Jersey Institute of Technology, before traveling to face Siena on November 10 and then hosting Morehead State on October 24 as a tune‑up.
The exhibition slate also features games against Siena, Morehead State and Southeastern Louisiana, marking the first time the Flyers will meet three Division I opponents in a single season.
Morehead State, which finished the previous year with a 20‑13 record and has reached the 20‑win plateau five times in the last six seasons, provides a seasoned challenge, especially given the teams’ last regular‑season meeting in 2005.
Siena’s program will see a coaching transition, with former coach Gerry McNamara departing for Syracuse and Nevada Smith taking the reins; the two schools last met in 2001, when Dayton secured an 87‑67 victory.
Southeastern Louisiana, a Southland Conference member that went 9‑22 last season under coach David Kiefer, will meet Dayton for the second time, recalling an 80‑74 Flyers win in 2022.
In addition to these matchups, the schedule references participation in the Charleston Classic and other high‑profile early‑season tournaments, underscoring the Flyers’ intent to test themselves against diverse competition.
